It goes from childhood curiosity to adult existence... just, existence. Doing things day to day, but nothing to help the world, and instead asking god to do it. And then, at least, when people age, they ask for forgiveness. They want to start over, rewrite their regrets for not having done anything, or even just for the things they've done. They want redemption. That's how I see this--the story of human existence.
